Why is it that we wait for this time of the year to make big changes?

I've never been one to make new years resolutions & yet I often make big changes around this time.

I can feel the urge building within.

I want to make more pizza next year. Do you want some? 😉

Yeah definitely man!

I don’t believe you, but we will have chances

I've never lied to you man.

True 🫂 hope Pedro is fine.

He's still alive.

I think he'd be happier in a nicer pot though.

You might decide to stop making big decisions around this time of year 😁

Thanks Volker 😂

It can serve as a reminder.

I’m also not really into making New Year’s resolutions but around the start of a new year (and sometimes around my birthday too) I find myself reflecting on the previous year. That reflection sometimes then leads to making changes in my life or setting goals.

Yeah - I've been doing & tend to do a lot of reflecting this time of year.

Well, calling it a new year probably does some psychological stuff to us.

Having the holidays where we come together with family and friends might give us new ideas and inspiration for how to live from now on.

The fact that every day is getting brighter might also play a part.

I think it’s partly because so many things are made up in life, but time, while relative, is real. As we begin another trip around the sun at a fairly arbitrary benchmark that should probably just be exactly at a solstice, we semiconsciously remember we only get to experience so many rotations before we die, and we hope to make the best of our lives, and we like baby steps, so we say “i will make these changes within my control and this one will be better”

I don't really tend to make huge changes around my birthday. My birthday is around the winter solstice.

It's the middle of summer here. Do you make a lot of big changes around the summer solstice?

I don’t make a lot of big changes in general 😅

But my wife and i made a rare new year’s resolution last year to cut out seed oils, and this year coincidentally starting just before the new year, it’s purging polyester and other shitty synthetic fabrics

Are synthetic fabrics _really_ that bad for you? I’ve heard a bit of stuff here and there, but never really looked into it deeply. I don’t wanna stop wearing my cozy athleisure 😩

I think it’s fiat world shit on par with seed oils, personally. Like in terms of the reasons they exist, their pervasiveness, health repercussions and such

Also they are a huge contributor to microplastic pollution, especially within your own home

Would definitely recommend looking into it a bit to decide if it’s a change you might wanna make

Noted… sigh

I tend not to make new year resolutions.

However, for some unknown reason, all my life changing decisions are made in Autumn.

I’m not sure if it’s the dealing with stuff before winter, or what, but Autumn is a weird time for me.

I completely understand the urge building within idea.

Interesting.

It's the middle of summer here

Yes! Same! My decision time is a still a few months away!

Our mind has been programmed to see it as the end of something and the beginning of something else, even more as the continuation of the previous thing.

It just seems inevitable for our mind to process that, review and assess the ending year (or beyond) and make decisions to improve on the new one.

It is quite random, not really natural, but I personally don't try to fight it. I try to embrace any occasion to reflect and improve things. ☺️

Some of it likely comes because your ancestors were likely chillin in a cave this time of year reflecting on how a year of seasonal graft is affecting them in the present. The cold and lower radiation from the sun internalises the blood flow to your major organs too likely encouraging this sort of behaviour. I am sure you still have that hanging around in you despite you living in upside down land.
