Bitcoin newcomers, please read:

First, it’s awesome that you’re here. I can’t imagine a cooler introduction to Bitcoin than Lightning zaps to and from the members of this community.

You’ve probably heard Bitcoin described as a rabbit hole — the sheer volume of of learning opportunities is immense. You can take it in so many directions: technical, economic, philosophical, social, environmental, and more.

But one key component (no pun intended) for every single bitcoiner is the importance of self-custody.

This is means YOU holding the “key” to your Bitcoin, and not a third party, whether that be an exchange or buying service like Strike, or a custodial mobile wallet like Wallet of Satoshi. Both offer great services, but Bitcoin ownership doesn’t start there.

Holding your private keys means that you are in full control of your sats — and in doing so, your Bitcoin becomes unconfiscatably and utterly yours.

There are many different guides to this process, and I highly recommend checking them out.

One is #[0] YouTube channel - it’s exceptional and we all learn a lot from Ben.

Another is #[1] tutorials: if you can work through the first three “levels” in the link below, you’ll be in very good shape as a newcomer to Bitcoin. (Note - in Arman’s reference to BlueWallet, you must create an “on chain” wallet, not a Lightning wallet, because that service is being discontinued).

Take it slow, ask questions. We’re here for you.

Oh, and if the #plebchain wouldn’t mind sharing this to reach more newbies, I’d be much obliged 🫡

Happy stacking, nostriches 💜⚡️⚡️

As a newb, I'm loving this community, and I couldn't be happier that my Bitcoin angel guardian brought me it 🥰 Thank you to all the "seasoned" peeps who patiently reach out to help people like me who are eager to learn, but still new and therefore stupid to this world
