Does anyone self host their own email server? If yes do you have problems getting stuck in spam? πŸ€”

I read somewhere that the biggest problem is that emails from your server have a high chance of being qualified as spam and lost in limbo

I don’t, but would like to start using a self-custody lightning wallet for email, and be able to set a minimum keysend amount to receive messages.

Proof of work, you know?

Nodeless.io does this :)

But then you get to read all the naughty emails my mistress send me πŸ˜†

But absolutely can't stress enough that yes we can see those emails. So always know that if you do use it

Make sure you setup mx, sfp, dmarc, dkim and your reverse DNS ptr record correctly. Or Google and others will never accept your mail. Make sure you ip isn't on any blacklists

It's a full time job. Did that for few years then I got tired of it and got protonmail, never looked back. YMMV

Just use AWS SES to send, and don’t bother hosting TBH, as mentioned it is a full time job. 🐢🐾🫑

I did up until about 5 years ago. Even if you do reverse DNS and DKIM and all of that stuff deliverability can still be an issue. You can't easily develop a good reputation for your IP address and frankly, the big email providers are kind of a centralized email cartel. By default if your mail isn't coming from one of the big providers they'll consider your mail as spam.

Used to but stopped when I couldn't stay off DNSBL or other black lists. From what I understand email has turned into an old boys network.

Yes, but I mostly receive, only email a few people.

Self, host as in on a server we control or as in in our own home? I host a bunch of cPanel instances with websites and email. Usually no issue, but I sometimes have to do DKIM stuff to get my client's email out of spam filters.
