When someone speaks with conviction, it unsettles those who are unsure of themselves. It confronts them with the discomfort of their own vagueness, their own indecision. Clarity, real clarity is piercing. It cuts through noise, nuance, and niceties. It doesn’t hedge. It doesn’t flinch. And for people who live in mental fog, that kind of certainty feels abrasive, even arrogant.

People LOVE to hedge their positions.
It’s the “politically safe” way to have a position nowadays. Don’t want your neighbor or the Thought-Police labeling you a traitor.
And to help navigate the fog, they will look to a higher authority, credentials, and prefer to be sheep led to the slaughter rather than give critical thought to the merits.

They’re becoming a smaller and smaller part of my life
To obtain clarity requires effort that most aren’t willing to put in. It’s easier to numb the uncomfortable feelings and project when the world reflects them back at you
