James Cameron Hints Potential “AVATAR” Anthology Animated Series In Development At Disney, Cameron Hints Possible Animated “AVATAR” FilmsThis past weekend, the trailer of AVATAR: Fire And Ash debuted on the big screen with Marvel Studios "The Fantastic Four: First Steps", providing movie-goers with a first look at the film’s eye-popping visuals, new clans, and stunning new creatures.Today the trailer debuted online and DEADLINE & The WRAP had a exclusive interview with James Cameron where he revealed that he and Disney want to expand the world of AVATAR with animated projects with his first goal being a animated anthology series in development.“I said, ‘Look, I want to do an animated anthology series that’s essentially in the world, but stories that you wouldn’t have expected from that world,‘” the Titanic helmer explained. “There might even be an animated feature in there — it might be a feature for streaming, or a theatrical feature" – CameronHowever, considering the followup to 2022’s smash hit The Way of Water has been taking up a significant chunk of the filmmaker’s time, Cameron said the animated entries are still in early stages of development.“We haven’t done much with that yet,” he said. “We’re still gathering our stories and that sort of thing, and I’ve got to find the boutique filmmakers, the animators, that want to do it.”Likely the best option for these projects are Disney Television Animation, Disney EMEA Animation or 20th Television Animation handling the series with 20th Century Animation handling the animated films.The AVATAR films have been one of the most sucessful franchises in cinema history with it’s first film being the highest grossing film of all time with it’s sequel “AVATAR: WAY OF WATER” passing beyond 2B at the global box-office
