How do these "mute" censoring lists work?

Are you automatically having these filters on without consent or do you manually have to apply them?

Are these applied to nostr or on the application level? and are they applied to ex. Primal?

And WTF is desiding who should be included in these lists?

By my understanding some nostr apps have filtered my posts without telling users in the past. I'm not sure if that happens anymore. I also might be individually muted by choice by 400 people though, lol

I used to think mute lists were a good idea until someone pointed out to me that there could just be label lists instead. Like, instead of subscribing to the list to mute everyone in it, you subscribe to the list to get a red box and a warning message around posts from everyone in it, or something like that. But you still have the chance to notice if someone seems to be listed unfairly

Thx, It would be sad to see nostr end up like another legacy media, Insta or FB.

Thou I have always been wondering why I see no SPAM? except PM.

A nostr app with P2P data verification over Tor could help a lot. When loading a thread, your device would try to contact the device of anyone currently online who's posted in the thread and check if you're seeing all the same replies
