I didn’t know whether to trust them, so I was going to comb the open source to see if it had anyone the malicious in there. Is this just a found search result or do you know it to be reputable? Seems like it wouldn’t have so many forks and activity if it was a bad repo.

Whatever software you end up using, try to run it without an internet connection. Finding malicious code is soooo hard as to be almost impossible.
