Yeah so you inspired me to try this tonight. How are you hooking up owncast to zap stream? You are just telling zap stream you have a rtmp endpoint?
It was pretty smooth going right to zap stream.
I’ve was trying a plugin on OBS that split the stream so had 2 stream keys in OBS but that was cruddy. Then tried forwarding from zap.stream to Owncast. That worked but is the opposite of what I want to do. The. Zap.Stream has an option ‘I have my own server. And you’re meant to add the url and it mentions HTL and according to Derek the CEO that works well but the option to save settings is always greyed out and I can’t find any documentation.
So zap stream uses cloudflare BTW. I saw thst option too. If you have owncast why are you bothering with zap stream? Just for the nostr chat?
I'm heading to bed but I think I have the solution for us. You can stream with owncast, and then you make a podcast with the live item option. This tells podcast clients (some can do video) to go to your owncast setver rtmp stream. You can still get zaps from the rss clients.
I will record my thoughts when I wake up but I think we can figure this out and it will be epic.
Two stream keys would be painful. That's double the bandwidth. Restream at least is only key and will send your stream out.
Makes sense. I came to this with zero knowledge, I’m not a gamer and other than podcasts I’d never watched a live stream…
If I could save the url where it says so on zap.stream id be so happy. Have you tried that yet?

Or live2 witb no recording. Then put in your stream key.
In the dashboard you can click edit stream info. And I was a able to click I have my own stream host and i can see where to put on the hls host. In your case this will be the owncast endpoint.
Yes that's what I do but when I open the tab where it says I have my own server, I enter the details but the save button is always greyed out. Do it work your end? At first I thought it might be my browser (Mullvad) but it's the same with Firefox.
Ah OK, yeah I didn't follow through and try the next step.
