A follow is like a call option on getting quality content in your feed. If you find one underperforming according to your preferences, it's easy to exit your position with no downside. And a random follow you made at a whim could have infinite upside through good notes and good boosts that lead to more follows from that npub.

So it's actually beneficial to have as many follows as possible on #nostr and cut down later based on inactivity or incompatibility.
