For the moment, I only use #lightning here on #nostr, to zap stuff. I’m wondering if it is possible or useful to set up a lightning node just for that.

From what I know now, I don’t think it is possible? But I’m just a noob 😅

I kinda wanna set up a node, and by looking at the #mempool, I’m getting a bit frustrated that I can’t 😂

Can someone here tell me more about that?

I kinda know how it works (I think) but I wonder if it’s possible just for what I wanna use it

new here also :) welcome!

I’m not new here 😅 but fairly new to lightning hahah. Welcome to you too!

A full node allows you to do shit you can't do with a regular phone wallet.

Look at getting #Umbrel which is a complete package of a node and tons of extra add-on shit.

Well yea. I have a node 😅 but I don’t know if I’m able to use a lightning node just for zapping people and receiving zaps

Are you asking if you should have a second node to do zaps? Then, no, don't.

Install #lnbits on your node and you'll be able to create sandboxed wallets on your node. You can have a sub-wallet on your nose just for zaps. And then, you can add a second wallet you can use for #Cashu. That's what I do. I even have another wallet setup for selling stuff using #btcpayserver.

No haha I know I can install a lightning node on the node I have. But I don’t know how to work it all out with incoming and outgoing liquidity

But I still have to learn about lightning as a whole. I just wondered if it was somehow possible to route all zaps on nostr “incoming and outgoing” through my own node. I don’t know how to explain better than this 😅

We use lnd and it’s quite straightforward. What we’ve learned is that we need to set up channels big enough.

Say you open a channel with 5,000,000 sats you are tying up that capital in lightning. If you live in bitcoin this is an obvious non-issue unless the service you want to pay doesn’t accept lightning.

A small channel can easily get out of balance (depending of how the payments flow ie say you just pay only, never receive). Which means you have to balance the channel somehow. This could cost some money.

We are an online retailer and we have more incoming than outgoing payments. So we have to offload some of our balance to the main chain in intervals. Mostly we use boltz.exchange for this. (Currently) you can also use them to replenish the channel if it’s out of funds.

There are some wallets that are having inexpensive ways to top up or drain lightning channels. We found boltz easy to use.

By the way we are not the greatest node but you are of course invited to join our node.
