TIL that even the FDfknA has considered cottonseed oil *not* GRAS (*not*generally recognized as safe) since 2015!!

Yet it is still used in thousands of products..

Not that I ever did trust the FDA, but this is on another level.. what is the point of its existence at all? (I know, I know, it’s a rhetorical question)

There are two ways a substance can be granted GRAS status:

-Self-determination: The company determines that the substance is GRAS and voluntarily notifies the FDA.

-FDA affirmation: The FDA reviews the data and affirms that the substance meets GRAS criteria.

Wonder who makes money when self-determination or FDA affirmation occurs??
