The point I want to make is, that we currently have only one (public) coordinator with significant liquidity.
I am glad nostr:nprofile1qqsqh808ch5z6fkzs45s5y7dzeq5nfdqaccnrwv39cwqhvmvv668r2cpzamhxue69uhhyetvv9ujuurjd9kkzmpwdejhgtcfz5pfs is doing this service. However applying "don't trust, verify" to the situation makes it strange (or should I say suspicious)?

That's a problem. Looking at the nostr:nprofile1qqszfn67p6jlle0qsj7lwx2l0ylxpse83e0x56qe5euxtwgwnyzdfqgpz4mhxue69uhkg6t5w3hjuur4vghhyetvv9usz9thwden5te0v4jx2m3wdehhxarj9ekxzmnyqyxhwumn8ghj7mn0wvhxcmmv8xlnk8 coordinator for example, it seems it would be enough to have 2 or 3 more extra people to bootstrap it completely.
You won't gain anonymity but a level of privacy enough to make it hard for most people to track you.
There is a centralizing force, yes. But it's also some convenience in decentralizing the liquidity and it would also be good to use smaller coordinators.
Every few weeks there is enough liquidity registering to https://coinjoin.nl 🕶️ but I’m in no way useful to the people that want to anonymise 100+ BTC, as my typical liquidity is several million sats with ~4 anonscore.
