The James Webb Space Telescope detected dimethyl sulfide, a molecule only produced by living things on Earth, in the atmosphere of an exoplanet. The discovery also revealed an abundance of carbon-bearing molecules, suggesting the presence of hydrogen-rich atmosphere over an ocean. Further validation is required, but if confirmed, this finding could be a promising biosignature for habitable exoplanets known as Hycean worlds.
