It just occurred to me that we don’t really have monogamy in the purest sense in the West anymore. Every marriage between two people, and also every de facto relationship in places with extensive de facto frameworks like Australia, involves three entities: the two people and the State.

Not wanting a relationship with the State, I suppose the rational and moral thing to do is also to not have a relationship with a woman.

common law marriage is still a thing in a few states i think...

not sure exactly what that might afford but there must be a way to have a sort of "divinely-ordained union" without Statan involved.
