Most of my aquaintances had moved off WhatsApp about 5 years ago. So other contact methods were already in place.

For those that didn't want to engage off WhatsApp, I made clear my reasons were understood (not supporting tech used in the Palestinian genocide). If that was still not convincing for someone to migrate a conversation off the app, it became more of a re-evaluation of whether that was a relationship that needed to be maintained.

what's the most popular alternative to whatsapp that you use?

I try to use nostr exlusively. 0xchat or Keychat are good alternatives here. If you want audio/video HiveTalk is like a Zoom alternative.

For non-nostr apps, I have some groups on Telegram (really don't like this app and hope to be off it by EOY). Signal, Session, or SimpleX are the other main chat apps I use.
