During World War II, Cleopa was sought by the Securitate due to his monastic activities and support for resistance groups. He hid in the forests, living as a hermit, and continued to guide people spiritually. Once, soldiers surrounded his hiding place, but as they approached, a dense fog miraculously descended, obscuring him from their view. The soldiers searched extensively but could not find him, attributing their failure to divine intervention.
