I ran into this same issue but I had problems finding the wayland libraries and gave up.
BTW... Couldn't find the AppImage on the releases page... So here is a NixOS packaging request: https://github.com/NixOS/nixpkgs/issues/299194

Been there, struggle with that....
Then this days I do "package requests only" 😬
