An observational note. I've been in The Philippines for less than 24hrs and it's a melting pot of tourists, all nationalities, as you can imagine. It's interesting to listen, as the "Foreigners" walk round, the vast majority are speaking English, with varying national accents. I can only assume that those foreigners choose to do so given that they are unlikely to speak Phillipino or the Phillipines are equally unlikely to speak Dutch or German or etc etc. So English is chosen as the "Default" language.
