It's hard to imagine a desirable outcome for Russia from this. NATO expansion and the failure of basic logistics being two big elephants in the room. Why would he do the thing that NATO basically exists for if he was not happy about it cozying up to the eastern side of things? And holy shit let's not even talk about whatever the fuck happened on the way to kyiv.

2014 was not desirable but since it happened they had to maintain it perpetually or at least thhought they did.
the reason for the 2022 invasion was because of a dispute over nato weapons or presence, it mightvs just been whatever slovenia was sending, i suppose its possible this was just an excuse but they gave several outs which werent intolerable and wouldve just maintained the status quo from russias perspective, so i assume something unacceptable mustve happened that warranted this.
they sent caravans to keep on a timeline of 3-5 to threaten a surrender assuming that make some kind of concession would be preferable to this they were wrong they sat there for two weeks (i hear the vdv thing at the airport was someone doing something they werent supposed to)
nato doesnt do anything its an excuse to use nukes and a sinkhole for money and a playpen for potential domestic belligerents
i dont see any of this as helping nato, its increasingly become american but american willingness to be in an army has diminished, if anything this would re europeanize it or produce local alternatives which much easier and safer for russia to deal with
