Yep it looks like that's where she got it from. I'm amazed I didn't know that lol. It's definitely an interesting idea and kind of holds weight. In the book Snow Crash, the plot point is that the Tower of Babel "event" was real and was part of a way to fight the virus of one language from growing too strong. Or something like that. The book is kind of insane lol.

I think I read Snow Crash too old. I think I should've read it in my teens tbh, or at least got into it with that as a frame. I think it's a 'young adult' /teenager book and I should reread it as that to be fair to it. But I didn't enjoy. It's all so yeah this guy who is a proxy for me, Neal, is like a bad as hax0000r he's so bad ass, he walks into the room and there's a hush, his katana is so bad ass, he swings his bad ass katana, and the crowd swoons and in unison say 'woah what a bad ass, he's the coolest.' he's me btw, I'm the bad ass, me, Neal 'bad ass' Stephenson.
Yeah the fact the main character is named Hiro Protagonist is ridiculous lmao. I love that the book doesn't take itself too seriously though. It's definitely worth a re read now that we're apparently going to have our own metaverse loop to ride soon. Some of the more interesting parts to me now are how they describe using a desktop with VR goggles, some of it was pretty close to how Apple's Vision Pro reveal looked.
Yeah it's probably / hopefully tongue in cheek lol, of like self referentially corny on purpose lol. I don't know. I really should reread it.
I kind of read it as some sort of attempt at making geek culture cool and bad aaaassss. And that probably read differently at the time of writing. But now all culture is 'geek culture' ... Comics and marvel and whatnot. I'm probably totally misreading snow crash lol
It's absolutely a parody in the vain of Verhoeven's Robocop and Starship troopers.
It's got cyberpunk and ultra capitolism, and kids riding skateboards hanging off the back of cars and cyborg dogs and a guy riding around on a motorcycle with a fucking atomic bomb in the passenger seat. All super 80's cliche.
I mean, how can your name your MC Hiro Protagonist without it being a parody?
Yeah I kind of suspected this, felt like reading a comic book, maybe... Judge Dreadish (the comic not so much the films). There's just no way all that bad assery was serious, even if it was for Young Adults. Not sure I'll ever reread it tho when there's more of his stuff I still haven't read and would probably enjoy more.
Soon we'll see some creative legends from the art or music world joining nostr? Would be cool to see some of the ways they decide to interact on this protocol.
