I had this mindset too early on. I was watching people repeat slogans of decentralization and censorship resistance when the platform had yet to earn such claims. I still think Nostr has a long way to go before it proves this over time but after getting past my initial resistance I do believe this protocol has a real fighting chance. I believe the Nostr we get will be a direct result of the feedback and participation we put into it. It's a platform where a well reasoned argument can influence the direction of a feature even if there is no financial incentive for that feature.

To answer your question I believe people on Nostr find themselves in an environment where only the people you want to follow are providing you with content. It's not being force fed to you through an algorithm that makes you engage with people wether it's good for your mental health or not. I think this makes it so you argue with people less and cooperate more. There are risks to this as wel though. We don't want to trap ourselves in an echo chamber where can't separate signal from feedback.
