Finally escaped the desert of the south side of Madeira. Sweetest thing I ever saw in years was an old bloke singing away while he tended to his garden.

My new landlady told me everyone sings in the Christmas run up. Sure enough at a restaurant the chef and barman and probably owner was warbling away too.

I am glad I came here. This is rich land, young soil and hard slopes to keep the impatient far away in their desert condominiums.

Yo come to the next meet up in Funchal, every 1st Wednesday of the month

It was on Thursdays before December. I didn't think to check until the first Thursday.

TBH I'd be paying maybe 60 eur to travel to it and back, I'm not sure it's worth it. Unless there's someone going there in Sao Vicente or Ponto Delgada, Saixal or even at least Santana or something.

I'm not missing the dusty dry winds or the constant noise of southern towns. Maybe it's practical to do it once a month on a bicycle.
