mainly because running through the snow is pretty damn dangerous, they are agile not blindly daring, they can do feats of agility because they know they probably won't fail, super conservative animal

fun fact, the game Kingdom Two Crowns in the viking DLC they made you can get a chariot pulled by a horde of cats, pretty funny, and they have kitties mooching around the landscape as you go back and forward, i forget how you charm them exactly
