The dynamics make it actually more likely with something like Mastodon. The more robust connectivity of having one user connected to multiple relays makes them less dependent on the relay (vs instance) and also gives the other relays less leverage in trying to go after one certain user. Not that it couldn’t happen but the fact that one user is tied to an instant makes mastodon much more conducive to this sort of dynamic.
