What do you need? You can disable the internal wallet and connect any NWC wallet instead.
do you need to run / manage your own node for a NWC wallet? I was trying to get everything set up with ecash using pub.cash so I didn't have to deal with a lightning node but I can't seem to get a NWC string
No, NWC wallets take many forms. If you’re already running a node you can use Alby Hub, but you can also get a NWC string from a lot of other wallets. Just be aware that custodial wallets are not intended for long-term storage and you should not hold too much in them.
Here are a few ways you can spin up a NWC wallet to plug into Primal and other apps.

I thought I was good to go originally using minibits through Zeus but for some reason still couldn't find a way to generate the NWC string. I think I'll probably end up going with alby on my node and my own channels eventually... I just have some light ptsd from the last time I messed with lightning channel management 🤣
Yeah, I think it’s confusing because nostr:npub1kvaln6tm0re4d99q9e4ma788wpvnw0jzkz595cljtfgwhldd75xsj9tkzv is both a mint and an app. nostr:npub1xnf02f60r9v0e5kty33a404dm79zr7z2eepyrk5gsq3m7pwvsz2sazlpr5 supports NWC and ecash but it doesn’t generate its own NWC strings. You have to get those from other sources.
I have been using a cashu.me wallet. Ecash, yes, but it works…most of the time. It has the nostr connections you want. No kyc. But zaps need to be approved in the web app. Zaps can be received as well, but I cannot verify this as I have not received any in my short time here so far.
