My wife and I are considering a trip this year to Barcelona with our two kids (11 and 14 at the time of the trip). First time for 3 of us to travel to Europe.

Does anyone have recommendations or thoughts? Assume we've researched most of the major tourist attractions. I'd love some local insight.

Also considering a train trip from Barcelona to Paris, and then flying back to US from Paris.

Hi Dane, not a local but been there 3 times.

Since you've researched the offical gems I'll spare you my thoughts on those.

Once you are in BCN please consider to travel to Valencia. This is a truly hidden gem among the big spanish cities. It's a short train ride and you'll see another beautiful city - in my point of view the most stunning one (Madrid, Barcelona, Valencia).
