Okay, I'm getting it now. I'm at the point there the doctor is in the park. The British guy is explaining the taxation is immoral thing

It seemed like all the stories (character A B and C) took a long time to wind together

Yeah, it takes a while until the mosaic of the story gets together, but I think there is fascinating dialog right from the start.
