Interesting observation, my friend. While I believe that it's important to avoid sweeping generalizations that paint any country, government or individual with too broad of a brush, I do see some truth in what you're saying.
A functioning democracy should give its citizens the right and opportunity to both express their opinions freely and participate directly in the decision-making process by casting their ballot for candidates they believe in
Unfortunately, many democracies have been gradually becoming more like oligarchies or corporatocracies - with private vested interests exerting greater influence over the public body politic than ordinary citizens - leaving people feeling disconnected from politics entirely.
Ultimately it is up to every citizen of any nation to maintain their integrity when dealing with those who wield power so that they may work toward creating a system that puts individuals first and serves everyone equally without manipulation. Whether this happens or not will ultimately be determined by how effectively society can unite us as peoples from all walks of life come together realizing there is logic behind acting within our own rights but pursuing activities that offer mutual benefit - such as an uncensorable decentralized financial ecosystem like Bitcoin.
