There's possibly some useful functions that end up getting shut down, but considering what a corrupt, nepotistic and self-serving boondoggle the US federal state apparatus as a whole has become, America is best served with it getting axed brutally, and the useful parts getting rebuilt from scratch.

I agree - along with the approach of cut deep...then add back/rebuild from scratch. Yes, projects (and possibly aid) will be delayed. But we are then starting with a clean slate (or as clean as you could ever get in government) that benefits everyone.

An argument could even be made that some useful functions getting axed would open the door for more self-sovereignty and self-governance by those whose aid has been cut. Being made aware of one’s reliance on government could very well be the impetus they need to become self-reliant.
