I don’t understand the necessity of them. It is not like the hardware takes your sats off the blockchain.

Also, some lowlifes are know to resell wallets after rewriting and flashing the firmware on them. The firmware sends them a copy of your private keys.
They store your private keys offline. They are an absolute necessity! You can't have your keys touch a hot device
