IIRC it actually cost quite a bit to denounce as well!

In the US, the IRS will go through ALL your life's finances to see if you ever missed paying any taxes if you apply to denounce your "citizenship".

In addition, depending on how the authorities view you, they can basically reject your denouncing intentions 🤣
