The pubkey login thing is something we’ve been looking at recently and we’ll be making changes to make it more obvious that its a read-only mode.
nostr:npub1xtscya34g58tk0z605fvr788k263gsu6cy9x0mhnm87echrgufzsevkk5s is who you are referring to in regards to the Damus dev. Damus has come a long way than what it was in December and the on-boarding should be much better than it was back then.
Will and others devs will probably make note of these experiences as I know the #damus team is hard at work improving things to make things more user friendly.
