In the 1700s around 25% of Amsterdam became French due to the influx of French Huguenots. They not once flew the French flag as that would indicate loyalty to their oppressors. The only flag they flew was the Dutch flag. They quickly integrated due to them being Reformed Protestants. And Amsterdam greatly benefitted from having them, since they all were skilled.
