I'm testing Amethyst this morning, the experience is great overall, with great potential.
Once the slowness is improved, the experience will be perfect
Slowness MAY be relay related or connection related. amethyst runs fast for me.

Not sure, I have only about 10 relays, and mostly paid relays.
I compared with Damus which is my main client for nostr
it can be slow at the start before it has adequate cache size
