Probably because it's acidic, and fruits like blueberries like it, because they naturally grow on forest floors.

Yes that's exactly what I was told. And pine needles for the same reason.

I have the pleasure of having access to natural blueberries in conifer forests, and they typically have very dark peaty acidic soils. I also grow many blueberries at home. I love them.

I've struggled to grow them in my garden. I haven't put a lot of effort in yet either.
