That's how it should be. If you are not using that relay, you need to delete from your relay lists.

Discussion
they're on the default relay list, which I never added in the first place.
Yep, they changed to a paid model. You can remove it.
having this information show up in the notifications rather than as random popups while scrolling through my feed would be great.
The issue is that the app needs you to pay right away to proceed. If we move to notifications, most people will not see that their relay is not working correctly and will just miss data.
This message is sent by the relay itself when it cannot complete the request. If you paid, it will complete. So, it needs to be acted upon quite quickly.
Nagging users to pay doesn’t work imo.
Gentle reminders once in a while will probably have better results. I don’t have numbers to back it up.
Although KDE plasma being a FOSS OS, they did something similar with a 1 off and a yearly reminder (bed could be turned off) in the end actually received good money
Nothing will work well until users pay. So, it's really not an optional thing. I prefer to bug them than to have them missing out on events or straight up not even loading anything.
I don’t disagree, but notifications to pay perhaps with a little less nagging? And with kindness and respect from your customers, as gentle reminders nudged along with explanations
I don't know... The user might miss all of his new posts if this payment is not being made. There is a lot of risk of losing everything here. The relay might even delete all your data due to lack of payment. We just don't know what can happen. All we know is that the relay needs payment right now.
The relay has other means to inform you. They can send notifications, they can send dms, etc. This is the last resort to get you to pay and keep your data.
Remember, this is the user's chosen relay. That relay is rejecting eventhing: new posts, likes, replies, zaps, etc. If that is the only relay (or the most stable relay), things will just disappear.
