I feel like. shit this is a difficult one. Depends on the Situation because Often times people say that just to get away with something shitty

But if it's not just an excuse to be shitty, so by that I mean, you *must* be shitty to achieve the objective, what do you think?

Never... My principle is to never go against my conscience. To taint yourself is never worth it.

I guess I'm against it. Bc ppl usually use that as an excuse for doing something shitty

Only if the means are kept within the bonds of acceptable morality. For some, that means, lying, cheating, stealing, addicting to drugs, sexually trafficking children, blackmailing, murdering, etc., are totally OK, whereas I do not think any of that is OK.

I think in absolute terms that means you don't believe the end justifies the means.

If your ends are good, and you achieve them by good means, then, that is the only case where this is a good thing.

The phrase specifically implies that the means are not good, but they're a necessary evil to reach the ends.

If you can't accept bad means, that means you don't agree that the ends justify the means.

That's correct. There is only one of the possible 4 cases that is acceptable: good end goal using good means.

It's not about what we do so much as to how we do it so no, I don't think so.

I agree

Nope. Because the means can include absolutely anything.

The end, or the goal, is the only thing that can provide justification to the means, or method, of obtaining that goal. If the means justified itself, it would somehow become the goal. Perhaps scratching as a means to relive an itch is an example of this.

There are some means to an end that cannot be justified. For instance, if one’s goal is to end human suffering, then means of killing all humans might attain that goal. I wouldn’t say the means were justified.
