In keeping with the metaphorical reading and it’s implications, I would also try and make the point that because we partook of the “fruit” of the “Tree of Knowledge of Good & Evil” the wrong way (out of alignment of God’s will), our view of good & evil is twisted forever now (without God’s help) as a consequence and drives home the subject of how we are stuck in our sin (interpreted literally as missing the target of God’s commandments) forever without God intervening.
