For me, it's the other way around. An incredible amount of lies and bullshit has been spread by others. And now people are pissed off that the lies don't get confirmed. Everyone was massively engaged in the abuse when they still had "hopes", and when the lies were uncovered they quietly cowered away or continue the abuse as if another story/explanation will just magically pop up if they try hard enough.
