Friend: Crypto is dumb. It’s not backed by anything.

Me: Bitcoin is different than crypto and its existence has value.

Friend: Bitcoin is a pointless technology because the US government will never adopt it. It’s only a speculative instrument.

Me: It’s not pointless for the millions of unbanked people in developing nations. They use it to exchange in commerce and act as their own banks.

Friend: Yeah, maybe. (Quick subject change)

I can get it. For people who haven’t taken the time to deeply look into it, they depend on headlines and trusted sources. So it’s tough when they’re challenged on a viewpoint that they haven’t developed fully.

I love how everyone acts like "the US goverment", you know the one "by the people for the people" has only been around a couple hundred years. 1933 took the gold of its citizens. 1971 defaulted on its "promissory bank note" and yet people think the dollar is "backed" by anything other than threat of violence, money laundering the assets to the top. Yet freedom of transaction, movement...
