Yes. Our drive to be “social” is both the strength and weakness of human nature.
This is why we persist with WoT.
Leveraging the power of humans “trusting” other humans, while protecting the vulnerability that this “trust” exposes, is the ideal position for WoT on Nostr. This balance is not guaranteed, and will be hard work to maintain. However, even the worst outcome, given that Nostr remains a decentralizing force, will simply be that Nostr usage fizzles out for lack of “trustworthy” content.
So yea. That’s my optimistic take. WoT is the best tool we have for “moderation” AND for “recommendation” of notes and other stuff. And Nostr is ready (while we’re young and stupid) to give it a good try.
its a trap. bro. most of you mean well but its the setup. easiest systems to hack are based on trust. an inner circle is easy enough to achieve without the need of social scoring. we used to get upset when men called women a 6 or an 8, because it was dehumanizing and an act of objectification but then we cite danger to the same women as a reason to put a number on everyone.
the flaw at the core is that it is almost always someone in your inner circle who will betray you the most deeply. On the flip side it means that the the clear path to influence becomes ingratiation. the latter aspect makes it more and more difficult to trust and so the circle shrinks, regardless of the numbers.
Easier to not trust anyone or anything on the internet. Verify everything. Every Idea. Every Avatar, Since you cant verify everything you get to put faith only in proveable stuff and proven methods.
This is why I want you to work with us on making bombproof Sovereign WoT for Nostr. I am gonna host another panel discussion on this topic. Will you join us?
