the reason why I initially hated Twitter was because I anticipated that the minimization of ideas might create vulnerabilities in social cognition – a type of hypermemetic subscription to thinly-veiled falsehoods in the name of concision – and this could have dire consequences.
needless to say, as with most assessments of modern technologies, I was right; at the same time, where would we be without it? perhaps, not even Nostr would exist without that precedent. we might never know.
I am quite happy to say that I was never actually influenced by the culture of twitter, and I would never want to be, though it was nice knowing that the tool was available whenever I was ready to use it, and I did, and I never want to go through that again.
