1. Buy a replacement filter for old air purifier. Expensive.
2. Buy a new purifier for the same price as the filter for the old one, and have cheaper filters for the new one.
One is cheaper in the short term, less wasted electronics.
Two is cheaper in the longer term, but more waste.

Give the fan to someone who then only needs to buy a filter.
