That's the purge tower. You have it on in the settings haha.

Is it wise to keep it on or is it overkill?
It's called a purge block, it's purpose AFAIK is to ensure that all of the previous color has been spent from the extruder before a new color has begun, can also help mitigate issues from air pockets that could have been introduced to the extruder during the filament change.
