#3dprinting supports question:

Any tips/tricks on setting up supports in a slicer such that:

a) they actually support the print

b) are not a major PITA to remove

I had to spend an hour with the cutters just to get the supports out. Often I had to tear them from the print, fearing I'd damage the 10h print.

The "snug" supports in PrussaSlicer with the default settings work great if you are supporting from the build plate only

If you also need supports above the model as well as the build plate, use the organic supports in PrussaSlicer.

Depending on the printer you use it can be a very demanding task to tune that in. But as it seems you should look at the distance between the interface layers when they are hard to remove.

Agree.

I’ve found that you can set the distance between the print and the support to much higher than the default value in most slicers.

The supports still work, and they are much easier to remove.
