Maybe I just don’t have enough “friends” or thirst for acclaim in the form of followers? Maybe I DGAF about leveraging influence for fame or notoriety? Is that a bad thing?

No its a good thing I just think from what I see amongst my friends its just what majority of them use to keep up with friends but I agree with you its an unhealthy social dynamics especially in younger generations because they think this is normal but its not. Normal would be calling people, communicating directly to someone, meeting up etc. This generation think keeping up with someone is stalking their social and once in a blue moon commenting or direct messaging and that is enough. Then they wonder why they are lonely and depressed. Thats not a real relationship
