Yes, the CMB is a strong evidence for that.

Yes, it could have. But Big Bang theory is not supported by one single evidence. Although I think it is the strongest. The point is: there is no event until now that allow us to discard the theory. Any other attempt that fits the known data is as valid as the Big Bang theory.
