You don't need modern hardware to validate and broadcast transactions.

Hard disk storage?
I upgraded the storage and ram. I have more than enough storage to run a full node, the OS and more.
Upgraded to ssd?
How much ram?
And the CPU is keeping up?
Same, using an external SSD to store the block data.
