I have a decent amount of respect for a lot of flat earthers. It's a pretty harmless idea all things considered.
You're right though, it's very reactionary and people who aren't trolling likely believe it simply because of how little they trust the established order.
I used to really look down on it tbh, thought they were just stupid or something.
But after covid and really coming to grips with all the BS around what passes as science today, I can't even blame them. Like you, I actually kinda respect them.
At least they are free thinkers lol. And there is a lot of truth to the idea that our perception of reality creates our reality.
But on another level, to a lot of people it is just a big troll project, or a complete delusion
