The announcement comes after months of pressure on PM Justin Trudeau's party to launch a full inquiry amid allegations of interference by China.

The judge is tasked with examining and evaluating foreign interference, as well as the flow of information to key decision makers, including elected officials.

China has repeatedly denied any interference.
